Scoliosis Treatment

Scoliosis is a condition characterized by an abnormal S or C curvature of the spine. This condition is usually defined by a curvature greater than 10 degrees. Scoliosis, which is seen in 2% to 4% of the population, may not require treatment in some cases. However, treatment is usually necessary if the curvature progresses over time. Scoliosis exercises, weight loss, and strengthening the back muscles in a corrective way can support recovery from this condition.

Scoliosis Symptoms:

● If the dresses look asymmetrical

● Shoulders not level

● If one rib is higher than the other when leaning forward

● If there is asymmetry in the back or waist

● If one more scapula is dislocated

● If one leg is longer than the other

● If the rib cage or trunk is tilted to the right or left

Scoliosis may be diagnosed more frequently, especially up to the age of 5 and during adolescence. When the patient is young and the slope is large, it is necessary to start treatment quickly using these two indicators.

Scoliosis Treatment

The treatment of scoliosis can be possible with manual therapy, which is one of the modern treatment methods. Special scoliosis exercises can eliminate the asymmetrical image and thus the patient's daily life activities can become more regular and of high quality. In addition to scoliosis, this treatment method can be effective for patients with complaints such as muscle spasm and low back pain. These problems can be alleviated with muscle stretching and 3D strengthening movements and manual therapy.

Except for advanced cases of scoliosis, patients can usually be treated with scoliosis exercises and physiotherapy applications. The application of correction techniques in the spine usually gives successful results. With manual therapy, even in severe cases, the asymmetry in the body can be significantly corrected. However, it is important for scoliosis patients to consult a specialist and to make necessary medical evaluations before starting the treatment process.

Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves abnormally sideways. This condition usually becomes evident during adolescence and is usually due to genetic causes. Exercise can play an important role in managing scoliosis. Various scoliosis exercises aim to improve body posture, increase muscle strength and flexibility, and reduce pain.

Here are some recommended exercises for scoliosis patients:

1. Plank Exercise: This exercise aims to strengthen the core muscles (abdominal and back muscles). Lie facedown and bend your elbows to 90 degrees. Lift your body on your elbows and toes so that your body forms a straight line from head to heel. Try to stay in this position for 30 seconds, then rest. You can do 3 sets a day.

2. Cat-dog Exercise: This exercise helps increase the flexibility of the spine. Stand on your hands and knees. Assume the “cat” position by arching your back slowly upwards. Then slowly lower your back and lift your head, into the “dog” position. Do these two moves in a series of 10 repetitions for each.

3. Side Lie: This exercise aims to strengthen the lower back and core muscles. Lie on your right side and lift your body on your left elbow, right foot in front of your left foot. Hold this position for a few seconds, then rest. Do this move for 10 repetitions on each side.

4. Leg and Arm Lift: This exercise strengthens balance and core muscles. Stand on all fours and raise your right arm and left leg at the same time. Hold this position for a few seconds, then return to the starting position. Then lift your left arm and right leg. Do this move for 10 repetitions on each side.

Always get approval from your doctor or physical therapist before exercising. The intensity and duration of the exercises should be adjusted depending on the severity of your scoliosis, your general health and your age. These exercises should also be performed under the supervision of a professional physiotherapist.
